Blogpost #3: India

Hey darlings!
Today it is my turn to give a little insight into my life as the Board Treasurer! As a true penny, I’m better with numbers than with words, so please bear with me, hihi.

As a Treasurer you’re definitely kept busy. You’re involved in all of the daily workings of the association, because of course everything involves money. But it is a lot of fun! The first few months I definitely had to settle in the role, but now I can confidently say I think I got the hang of it. A lot of people always think that being a treasurer is very boring and analytical, it’s just numbers right? No! You can have a lot of creativity! Looking into budgets, seeing where there is room to save, so you can do an even more elaborate event? Doing data analysis and creating pretty coloured graphs? Yeah, okay nevermind, I see what you guys mean. Most of my daily board tasks are just administrative and bookkeeping. Everyday we get the report for the pin machine that needs to be processed in Conscribo (the bookkeeping site we use). I also pay all the reimbursements and just generally keep an eye on the bank account. Once a week the Mollie statement (for all things bought through the website) comes in, so that needs to be processed as well and every month we get a report from Paypal. I’m also involved in all the merch projects that are going on, so stay tuned for that ;)

Next to the administrative things I'm the contact person of two very fun committees; BarCie and Illusie! We meet every week and discuss upcoming events and also (usually) just yap a whole lot. They are both very different committees, which makes it super interesting to have them both. Having to be sober every BarCie has actually been pretty nice, because everybody wants to buy you shots in Il Caffè after ;) I’m also in LOOP together with Mat, which is the association for all Pedagogical Sciences study associations over the Netherlands. We meet once every 1.5 months to discuss how we’re doing and working on the Masters Guide.

Of course I don’t do everything on my own. I have four amazing board members by my side that have become so important to me through this year <3. Next to that we have RvA to guide us every step of the way and most importantly for me; the KasCo! My KasCo consists of 3 old wise men that have been in the association for a looooong time. If I’m ever in doubt I just send them a text and they give some solid advice, also if I don’t know how to do something I can just ask them. So big SO to Ed, Thom and Andrew <3

When it comes to personal life, I honestly have to say that I am busy a lot with Board. But it’s not in a negative way! I like the work I’m doing a lot and being involved in so many different projects gives me a lot of motivation and energy. Plus, we do have a lot of social activities with the association and with other Boards as well. Like last weekend we went on a weekend away with all the Boards of brother associations from the VU, which was such a fun and amazing experience! I also meet up with friends to have dinner together and I plan an outing to go to a museum together with my boyfriend as often as possible.

All in all, I’m having the time of my life this year with all the amazing experiences and learning opportunities I got to have already and I’m looking forward to see what the rest of the year will bring me!

Lots of hugs and kisses,
India Bartelings
Treasurer of the 79th Board
