Blogpost #2: Mabel
Hi everyone!
We have just entered the second semester of the year, even though the start of the year seems like it was yesterday. Since September my life has changed rapidly, from a committee member, to a Board member!
The beginning of the year came with a lot of fun things, but also some struggles. The introduction week, where I got to know a lot of new people, to the first General Meeting (my fingers still hurt from all that typing) and the forming of the committees. In the beginning of the year, we get the most new members, which is very exciting! This also means it is the most time consuming part of my year as Secretary. Handling the member file is one of the tasks of the Secretary, as well as keeping track of the emails, organising the drive and learning how to efficiently transcribe. I will not bore you with the endless list of other things you have to/can do as a Secretary.
Some struggles were time management, and keeping track of everyone’s calendar, as well as your own. At the start of the year, everyone is getting to know their position, what they have to do and how they can do this best. As Secretary I noticed I have to be the one that keeps track of the calendar, because without it, most other Board members would experience a harder job.
Being in the Board has already taught me a lot, how to stay organised, how to adhere to a planning instead of just making one and throwing it out again, how to confront and be confronted when something is not going the way it is supposed to be, multitasking between the social-, work-, study- and personal life. Also having to say no, and prioritizing is something that I have been taught throughout this first semester. Having to overlook committees, and even when there are great ideas, having to give them a reality check is something I really struggled with at first, but now has become easier.
Coming semester I am focussing on organising even more great events, the Skitrip organised by Wintersportcie is coming up, we are planning a great Ouderdagcie and we are of course busy with the Active Member Weekend, which I think is going to be a weekend filled with laughter, fun games and not a lot of sleeping.
My motivation really comes from all the great events we have had and will have, the great members who come by and of course the other Board members, there is no way I could have done this without them <3
Love,
Mabel van Gent
