Blogpost #1 - Dylan
Hello lovely members,
This will be the start of this years' blogposts. In these blogposts we as a Board will share our personal experiences of being a Board member and will explain to you what we do. At the start of the year everyone has to find their own way into the role. You don’t really know what you have to do and try to figure out what is the best way to do things and how to navigate your role in Board. I would like to share with you how I found my way in my role and how I enjoy life in the Board.
I really like being Chair. These few months I learned a lot of things which really helped me develop workwise and personal wise. I was really bad organizational wise and really didn’t plan anything. This might be the skill I advanced in most: keeping order and planning everything ahead. This took me a while to adjust to and up until only recently I feel very confident in my planning skills. This has been very worth it though. As Chairman I also meet a lot of new people and organizations within VU and outside of VU. This has really taught me how the VU works and organizations outside of the VU too. For example LOOP and SSPN, these are organizations that make the master guides for psychology and pedagogical sciences. These are made by other Boards throughout the Netherlands which was really eye-opening to see how they do things. I really enjoy having these meetings because we all share the same experiences but go about it differently which really expands my view of business. All in all being Chair means being organized and social with a lot of different settings. I couldn’t be happier with the choice I made and I am still very enthusiastic for the rest of this year.
This year we tried to do a lot of new things for the association like the Piccie. Every Board has a lot of new ideas for the association but seeing those ideas become reality is like a fever dream. The entire year you try to make the association as best as possible. Seeing everyone have fun and enjoying themselves makes all the work very much worth it.
Being Chairman was a difficult choice to make for me but I am really glad I made the choice and stepped outside of my comfort zone. It has taught me a lot and gave me experiences I will never forget.
Peace out ✌️
